Thanks for all the answers everyone.  I wish I had asked weeks ago.

    Actually CC-san (who neglected to post the answer to keitai-L
so he will remain nameless) gave me the answer also before I got
the replies from the list 1 minute after I posted.

    And contrary to popular belief Windows 2000 does use the autoexec.bat
file, sometimes.  I've tested it myself.  Some things are read from that file and other things
aren't!  Path works, CLASSPATH doesn't (for me).
