We are currently using the VSCL , however it appears currently only to
support the European handset Sharp GX-10.

You can get a lot of information on Vodafone's Global Platform (JSCL/VSCL
etc) from www.via.vodafone.com. You have to agree to an NDA, but there's
then a whole slew of PDFs full of sample code. Not being a programmer I
can't answer to exactly how close this gets to what's needed as far as Java
goes, there's also an option to have an SDK sent to you on CD for free,
which sounds pretty good.
