If you want to roam on a Japanese SIM, both Softbank and Docomo offer
mobiles with 3G and GSM which you can use to roam. Your Japanese SIM
should also work in any GSM mobile for calls but setting up MMS, etc.
is tricky/impossible. From experience, Softbank has better roaming
options.
