Barcamp Baltics is Coming

Web application movement is growing in Baltic states. Biggest event in near future will be Barcamp Baltics 2008. It is held 8-10 February in Riga. Barcamp describes itself the following way:
Barcamp is a unique international unconference on new media, blogs, podcasts, social networking, citizen journalism, web 2.0, open source and everything else that is connected with it. Unconference includes open presentations, workshops and workgroups; everything is held by the participants themselves.
Other than Barcamp Jüri Kaljundi has been organizing OpenCoffee Club in Tallinn for a while. I have always had some lame excuse not to attend. Next event will be 6. March. That one I will attend. Now when it is said public I cannot have any excuses…
New Years Eve At Riga

Thanks to Kaidi, Siim, Arpo, Helen, Terje, Priit, Pille and Vallo I had the most fun new years eve. This time we were in Riga.
After crossing the Latvian border speed limits drops by 20 km/h. Not a bad thing when you see the condition of Latvian roads. After getting to Riga first thing you notice is the huge shopping centers. I mean huge and there are many of them.
Riga offers atleast two good clubs: Club Nautilus and Club Essential. Latter one being exceptionally good. Although I must say some Latvian guys have some attitude problems. The following was part of an converstation in Club Nautilus.
Guy: pranks prests mrkstas centrs? Me: Sorry English only! Guy: Engliis? Sooo you are foreign? Guy: You are here to fuck Latvian women right?! Me: No I am here to spend NYE with my Estonian friends. Guy: NooooO! You are here to fuck Latvian women! I know! Me: Sorry no I am not. Were here to spend NYE. Guy: SOOOO! What are you GAY! ....
Wake up call. Not every foreigner is a sex tourist (boy this will atract people from Google…)
Drinking good vodka only does not give you any hangovers. Thus we went to eat twice in LIDO Atpütas Centrs. LIDO is yet another huge dining complex. You enter this hall full of cooks making food. You can choose what ever you want to eat. The possibilities are endless. You must pass a cashier before going to table area. Interesting point is everything must be paid by cash.
Sky Line Bar is worth visiting if you want to get good coctails. Although after group of 11 all ordered the same icecream coctail the bartender started to look bored.
