Gigacode is basically a registration system run from the gigahertz site (run
by gigaflops www.gigaflops.co.jp, the guys who operate the gigahertz mailing
list (in Japanese http://gigahz.net/ml/) for creators of katte sites.

Basically you go to the gigahz.net site, key in a 6 figure number which
redirects you to the corresponding site. Many magazines promoting katte
sites list both the URL as well as gigacode to facilitate easy access. ie.
instead of keying in xyzxyzxyz.com/i you can go to the gigahz site and key
in 123456. They currently have 30300 gigacodes registered with them,
paralleling ohnew!'s search engine. Another model for portal strategy
facilitating easy input on the unofficial menu.
