March 13, 2001 (TOKYO) -- DDI Pocket Inc. will likely start using a Web
browser that supports XHTML Basic for its personal handyphone system (PHS)
phones and PDAs in the fall of this year.

This will coincide with the timing of the company using Java VM in its PHS
phones.

XHTML Basic is a content-description language recommended by the WWW
Consortium (W3C) in December 2000 for small appliances such as mobile phones
and PDAs. W3C is a standardization organization for the World Wide Web.
XHTML Basic is a subset of XHTML and a redefined HTML 4.0.

Previously, DDI Pocket provided "H" (edge) Link" service using its
proprietary language that uses expanded tags to read e-mail content.
However, few content packages are available because the tags don't comply
with other languages, resulting in a sagging number of H" Link users.

DDI Pocket expects the adoption of XHTML to help increase use of content
services.

DDI continued to provide its original description language as the CPU
processing speed of PHS was much lower than that of a mobile phone and it
was quite difficult to read and view many tags. The adoption of Java VM will
require the chip performance to improve to a point comparable of that of a
mobile phone. DDI Pocket is likely to market a handset that has XHTML Basic
in its browser
