This just in from DoCoMo.
How to be one of 3G testers.
Before starting your engines; testers have to be around the Kanto (Tokyo)
area.

NTT DoCoMo to Invite Monitors for "FOMA" Introductory Service

TOKYO, JAPAN May 8, 2001-NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (NTT DoCoMo)
announced today it will carry out a media campaign to seek monitors
for its new "FOMA"third-generation (3G) introductory service.

FOMA is the brand name for NTT DoCoMo's new 3G service based
on the W-CDMA mobile communications standard.

The campaign will be conducted from May 10 via newspaper
advertisements and the company website. Anyone who meets the
necessary criteria must apply via NTT DoCoMo's FOMA website
(located at http://foma.nttdocomo.co.jp/) from May 10 (10 a.m.)
to May 16 (5 p.m.). NTT DoCoMo hopes to attract approximately
4,000 individuals and corporate users to serve as monitors for the
introductory service, which NTT DoCoMo will conduct to assess
system performance and obtain customer feedback prior to its
full-scale launch of 3G services in October.

The monitors will be provided with free handsets and will be
exempted from initial administrative charge, paying basic monthly
fees and optional service fees but not actual communications
charges and i-mode information charges. In return, the monitors
will be asked to fill out questionnaires about the services and offer
their comments and suggestions regarding possible improvements.

Applicants must live or be located within an NTT DoCoMo's
business area* and must use their FOMA handsets within the
area of the introductory service, which will include the 23 wards
of Tokyo and selected areas of Yokohama and Kawasaki cities.

* NTT DoCoMo's business area includes Tokyo as well as
Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Gunma, Yamanashi,
Nagano and Niigata prefectures.

The choice of handsets will include "standard" (FOMA N2001),
