well, on the java/3D front, there's Fabio Ciucci's anfyteam:

Some American bricks!ahem!phones (Nextel and a couple of others)
are starting to support java, all black and white of course, you
know, for 'enterprise'! don't bother unless you can ship golf,
tom clancy or minesweeper.
As for mobile phonese in general, good luck buddy. The western
world's alternative du moment is WAP, and you'd be lucky to find
a phone that does more than one 1-bit piece-of-shoe WBMP image
on a line, let alone animated GIF.
