Most European phone manufacturers have cottoned on to the value of the youth
market, but their attitude is quite clear. I spoke to them (Nok)a month ago
and they
claim that they target "all their customers equally" and do not segment on
the basis
of age or sex. Look at the Club Nokia ads - theyre targetted at kids quite
blatantly.
However last year in the UK, the Stewart Enquiry recommended that
manufacturers do
not target kids or u-16s in their advertising due to health risks associated
with
microwaves (etc etc). As a result, being a public company, they are scared
to admit
they do - so most advertising is "suit based".
