IMAP is vastly more powerful than POP3, and shouldn't be grouped together
with it.

Why do you think that HTTP is better for retrieving multimedia messages?
Do you know that IMAP allows retrieval of individual parts of a multi-part
message?  (Some clients don't do that, but that's not the fault of the
protocol.)
