An interesting article about i-mode in Europe and 3G:

In contrast to Vodafone, the European firms that have links with NTT
DoCoMo and are offering the i-mode service are struggling to attract
users.
Few of DoCoMo's partners are number one in their home markets, and they
are advertising their i-mode services independent of each other.
In addition, the i-mode browser their handsets have has quite different
specifications than the usual type of browser used in European phones.
That means that only a limited number of handsets are available.

(Note: In the year-and-a-half since i-mode services were launched in
Europe --
in March 2002 -- the number of i-mode users has grown to 1 million
people.
By contrast, Vodafone live! boasts 3 million users a year since its
launch
in October 2002.)
