KDDI/AU's PENCK model for example starts scanning as soon as
you start the appli, and you don't have to press any button
as on most other phones. Usually the code is scanned/decoded
almost as soon as you start the appli, i.e. less than a second,
or as soon as the camera sees a QR code. It practically instant.

of course it fails sometimes, since there is error restance
built in, and if the QR is very dirty, or badly printed etc
then it does not always work. But if the code is well printed
it always works. Some DoCoMo campaign girls have QR cods
across their chests or back, and then depending on the shape
of their bodies also sometimes it does not work :)

Hope this helps.
