Even though you are "correct" by strictly formal standards, the word used by
all those that offer and use these SW packages is "emulator". In a spoken,
living language the practical use of a word supersedes the formal definition
thereof. If you are the only one to use a word as opposed to what other use
you obviously value being right over being understood.
Therefore in discussions with others you should probably use the word
"emulator" unless you wish to confuse or do not wish to be understood.
