3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France - February 21, 2001 - VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of Internet trust services today announced that it will embed its digital certificate technology into NTT DoCoMo, Inc. Java-ready 503i series mobile phones. Users of NTT DoCoMo's "i-mode" services will be able to conduct SSL encrypted communications between NTT DoCoMo's mobile phones and i mode-ready web sites authenticated by VeriSign's Secure Server ID. As a result, NTT DoCoMo customers will access sensitive applications with confidence that the connection is secure and authentic.

"Utilizing VeriSign's advanced security for i-mode, NTT DoCoMo customers will experience smooth and secure wireless communications," said Anil Pereira, Senior Vice President and Group General Manager, Enterprise and Service Provider Division of VeriSign. "We're extending a proven infrastructure from the wired world to the wireless, bridging a gap that will enable millions of wireless users to enjoy the convenience of secure wireless transactions."

NTT DoCoMo's 19 million i-mode users who access a website authenticated by VeriSign's Secure Server ID or 128bit SSL-able VeriSign global server ID, can access the site without considering security because the digital certification technology is now built into the new phones at manufacture.

Under terms of the agreement, VeriSign's root key will be installed onto NTT DoCoMo's Java-ready 503i series mobile phones. The VeriSign root key, which is vital to digital certificate technology over the Internet, was the first to be built into standard browser software such as Netscape Communicator and Microsoft Internet Explorer and is now installed in over 50 server platforms.

The newly installed root keys chain to VeriSign's globally interoperable digital certificate hierarchy, which currently includes over 275,000 active websites and millions of individual digital certificates.
