Cingular (logica network) has apparently seen a 450% increase in SMS
over the last six months. But as you say, technical considerations were
holding the market back (no cross network messaging)

Recent accouncements from Motorola&verisign indicate they are solving
some of the technical issues.=20

But carriers as yet do not use compatible systems. that is just
emerging.

But US teens haven't developed "mutant" thumbs yet. ;-)

Does anyone know whether SMS has taken off in the US? I had heard it was

slowed down by the lack of compatible systems but this problem was

to have been solved by late 2001. do carriers now use compatible systems

and has this lead to growth in SMS in the US?
