11. ESMERTEC LAUNCHES DUAL-MODE JAVA SOLUTION FOR EUROPEAN =
OPERATORS
Esmertec, a Swiss-based provider of Java software for mobile handsets
and PDAs, has developed a dual-mode Java solution that will be targeted
at operators providing the 2.5G i-mode mobile data service in Europe.

The company said the solution will allow new i-mode-enabled handsets to
support applications based on both DoCoMo's i-Appli software and mobile
Java's Mobile Information Device Profile, regardless of the make or
model of phone involved.

Dual-mode Java phones will help i-mode operators provide an even wider
range of applications when they start offering i-Appli support from
summer 2003, by also providing access to applications based on MIDP
MIDlets, said Esmertec.
