I just read this article (German only, sorry):

http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/0,1518,248927,00.html

It basically says that the Italian Mafia is very happy
about UMTS and found already a great usage...traditionally
they paid poor people (with shoes...one shoe before the
people entered the voting booth and the other shoe when
they came out) to vote for their parties in elections.

Now with 3G camera phones the voters actually can prove
with a live video stream out of the voting booth that they
really made their cross on the right spot. If not, they
can expect a cross somewhere else.

This gives the phrase "killer application" a total new meaning.

And UMTS/3G seems to be popular in Italy...they got 60,000
users (voters?) since March 2003.

;)
