Try the SO504 (probably SO505 as well) - maybe they improved recognition. 
You can press the clear button to go back without starting over. It is also 
smart enough to know large tsu should be treated as small tsu when you type 
in the full word. This also works for small yo etc. I found this out by 
accident & it is useful.

Many of the others use T9 (http://www.t9.com). They used to have an 
interactive demo, so you can try their system online.
