Hi all,

(this is a cross posting of an email that I sent to the ninjava list last
week.)

I am interested in mobile (Java) applications from a user perspective
(features, usability, usage scenarios, benefits, changes in social behavior)
as well as from a business perspective (business models, revenues, etc).

On this background, I met with Sam Joseph last week for lunch, and among
other things I asked him for his favorite mobile Java application. We talked
about lots of things regarding what sort of Java services people are
actually using on the phone (not just trying out once, but really using as a
tool)...

I now would like to extend my question to the keitai list: what Java
applications are you using on your mobile phone? Which ones do you like, how
do you use them, and what do you like about them? If you don't use any, why
do you think that is (e.g. too expensive, or not really useful, or too
complicated to navigate).

Also, what Java apps do you know are popular, even if you don't use them
yourself? What applications are out there besides the often quoted games?
What are your friends using? What kind of applications would you like to
use, if they would exist? And what applications have you developed yourself
(or people you know), that you think are cool and that I could try out on
the phone (i-mode, ezweb or j-sky)?

To also answer the question myself, I am mostly using the remote-mail 505
appli that allows to check my PC email on the phone in the background, and
to reduce my packet fees at the same time (since the packet saver is built
in). With Sam's help, I even managed today to set the appli up as a stand-by
screen so that its always active on my desktop ;-)

I also use a Train scheduling appli that lets me save previous searches in
the appli, checks the nearest station, and has a nice and smooth interface
to navigate.

For your information, I am doing this research partly for a presentation
towards one of my company's clients and partly because I am personally
very curious about this.

Thanks a lot in advance for any comments or tips, online or offline.

Cheers,
Andrea
