I have occasionally been contacted by members of this
list asking for information about developing on
Vodafone Live! (Japanese version) Previously there was
a development program that required a yearly payment
to join. For what the program seemed to provide, it
seemed a little expensive, and I heard that as well.
Below is a story from Nikkei which suggests those days
are over.
Vodafone Provides Free Development Program for
Contents Providers
April 7, 2004 (TOKYO) -- Vodafone KK started to offer
its "Vodafone Solution Provider (VSP)" program free of
charge on April 1, 2004.
VSP is a program to help contents developers for
mobile phones. Before, Vodafone charged each VSP
member company an annual fee of 100,000 yen.
To use this free program, applicant companies need to
be screened by Vodafone. Once approved, they can use
free support services from Vodafone to develop
contents and solutions for mobile phones.
For example, technological data of Vodafone's handsets
will be disclosed. Content development tools also will
be provided. Vodafone's handsets will be free.
Through this VSP program, Vodafone aims to improve
contents of its browser phone
