Japanese operators dictate the spec and distribution of handsets, 
at their own risks of course, for more profit.  it isn't too bad 
because it enables them to invest more in better services. 

3G is more a diversified world than harmony.

is that SAR the foremost reason that people wear a hearing-aid?

  hands-free (driving or taking note, etc.) 
  heavy bulky handset (like F900iT) 
  one more messing item to manage 
  voice vs data usage 
  ... ? 

as for connectivity, there are already IrDA, USB mini-B, and SD card.
