I'm just not seeing a lot of it for anything beyond what you could do
with animated GIFs. I'm not saying that Flash can't do more than that; I
know it can. I'm just not seeing it.

Not all. With my SH505i I have a normal HTML splash page, although the
little animated graphic at the top could be Flash rather than a GIF.
