it seems the new kddi phones support "SD Audio" - eg playing encoded
audio right off the SD card (so no need for the iPod).

however, there seems to you need to have a security-compliant hardware
card reader-writer (on your PC?). is this a special type of hardware?
eg my existing SD card slot is no good?
著作権保護/セキュリティ機能に対応したSDカードリーダー/ライターが必要。

does anyone have more info on this? eg i cant just encode some files
as AAC and stick em on the SD card...

I actually just want this for my own japanese language audio, not
ripped off MP3s, but it looks like yet again the DRM package is going
to make the audio playback unusable. maybe they hired some people from
sony.

A bit of an about face for KDDI tho; currently it seems vodafone
devices are the best for replacing the iPod.
