You focus as best you can with whatever tools you have. And then you hope.
Given sufficiently high resolution, you don't actually need good focus
for reading a QR code. There are other possibilities, too. Some of
these cameras have big enough sensors that they actually need (and do)
autofocus, from what I've heard. Others, who knows, maybe the sensor is
getting so small that it's effectively becoming a pinhole camera.
