The Walt Disney Internet Group has said that it will provide content for the
i-Mode mobile internet service operated by Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo. The
new service, known as 'Disney-i', will provide a daily screensaver featuring
a Disney character, a selection of Disney songs which can be downloaded and
played using a mobile telephone, an interactive Disney game and a channel of
the latest Disney news and information. Disney-i will be made available more
than 10 million Japanese mobile internet users, the largest audience
accessible through a single ISP in Japan. Disney plans to introduce a
further selection of content later this year and will work with NTT DoCoMo to
provide rich video content when the carrier's 3G network becomes available in
2001. Disney is the latest media giant to be wooed by the rapidly expanding
i-Mode audience, following the launch of CNN's channel earlier in 2000.
