I think I've got it. Thanks for all of your help.
Here's a test page. If you visit this page with an imode and input a string 
that includes a lucky charm or four-leaf clover, etc, it will replace the em
oji with the English text provided by Craig a few days back.

And this one will replace the emoji with a Japanese equivalent:

The code contains Japanese, so it's probably best not to post it here, eh? I
