FACTBOX-The first 3G models from DoCoMo <9437.T>

   TOKYO, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Japan's dominant mobile phone operator,
NTT DoCoMo Inc, is set to unveil the world's first 3G
   phones next week.

   Three models are to be offered: a folding camera-equipped phone that
offers video conferencing, a standard-type phone
   featuring the i-mode Internet-access service and a data card type for
notebook computers to link to the Internet.

   DoCoMo's brand name for the 3G service is FOMA, for Freedom of Mobile
Multimedia Access. The following is a rundown of the
   features and specifications of the three mobile models:

   FOMA P2101V

   The Panansonic video mobile phone made by Matsushita Communication
Industrial Co Ltd <6781.T>.

   Expected retail price: 60,000 yen ($501)

   Dimensions (mm): 104 x 56 x 35

   Weight: 150 grams

   Battery life (continuous use): 100 minutes for voice, 70 for video

   Standby battery life: 55 minutes

   Packet-transmission rate: downstream 384 kilobytes per second (kbps);
upstream 64 kbps.

   Circuit-switched transmission rate: 64 kbps

   Features: Colour screen, i-mode, TV conference calling, Internet
e-mail, short messaging. No protuding antenna.

   FOMA N2001

   The NEC Corp <6701.T> standard-type model featuring i-mode Net
access. Expected retail price: 40,000 yen ($334)

   Dimensions (mm): 103 x 52 x 20

   Weight: 105 grams

   Battery life (continuous use): 90 minutes for voice

   Standby battery life: 55 minutes

   Packet-transmission rate: downstream 384 kilobytes per second (kbps);
upstream 64 kbps.

   Circuit-switched transmission rate: 64 kbps

   Features: Colour screen, dual mode i-mode (for simultaneous Net
browsing and i-mode access), Internet e-mail, short
   messaging. No protuding antenna.

   FOMA P2401

   The data-type mobile terminal that fits into a PC Card Standard Type
II slot, made by Matsushita Communication.

   Expected retail price: 30,000 yen ($250)

   Dimensions (mm): 13 x 56 x 120

   Weight: 50 grams

   Power: DC 5.0 volts (from PC card slot)

   Packet-transmission rate: downstream 384 kilobytes per second (kbps);
upstream 64 kbps

   Circuit-switched transmission rate: 64 kbps

   Compatible Operating Systems: Windows 98, ME, 2000 Professional
