Okay let's play Sherlock Holmes here for a minute.

It sounds like they've dusted off the old left/right eye trick without the
need for red/blue look-ma-I'm-a-dork-in-cardboard-eyeglasses. One of the
clues to what they are doing is the high res. (310,000 pixels?) camera.
Heck, that's over 512 x 512 resolution which is just fine for doing
reasonable image processing (ie, 2D image hacks, not 3D hacks). The
left/right eye trick works by recording the same scene from slightly
disparate positions (as our eyes do). If I recall correctly, one of the
cheats here is to simply shear a single scene image left/right for each
view, however when we did it back in grad school we were using synthetic
3D models (polygons).

Gosh, old hacks never die, they just resurface on Japanese keitas. Wierd.
