Actually, there have been developments in microphone technology to 
allow a "microphone" on your throat monitor muscle movements and 
synthesize the corresponding sounds. Essentially, you can whisper or 
simply mouth the words, and the microphone will synthesize what you are 
saying. Thus, a silent phone call. This technology has been developed 
for extremely noise environments (e.g. factory floor) where spoken 
sound would be drowned out by the surrounding noise.
