I also got the impression from one person I was talking to that SMS and
MMS were used instead of web browsing. He was suggesting, for example,
that you'd send an SMS message to get a list of hotels nearby as an SMS
(or perhaps he meant MMS) response, select one, and send another SMS
message to get the details of a particular hotel, which you'd then get
again via an SMS reply.

Is it the case that outside Japan phones do not have web browsers that
could implement this sort of scenario more easily? Well, of course any
i-Mode carrier outside Japan has this. What about others?
