DoCoMo to Suspend Java Phone Sales After Glitch Found (Correct)
(Corrects to say in fourth paragraph DoCoMo began selling Java-based
handsets on Jan. 26.)
Tokyo, Feb. 9 (Bloomberg) -- NTT DoCoMo Inc., Japan's largest cellular
phone company, said it will temporarily stop selling handsets running on
the Java-based programming language because of a glitch found in the
software.
The affected phones, made by Matsushita Communication Industrial Co.,
automatically turn off when users try to reach certain Web sites. Data,
such as e-mail, phone numbers and Web page bookmarks, are erased when the
phones are turned back on, the company said. Fujitsu Ltd. also makes
Java-enabled phones.
