The card looks to the computer like a com port, or a modem card.
So the software sets the speed of the "serial port" to 115K, and
uses flow control to make sure that it doesn't send data too fast.
So it really does look to the computer as if it's connecting at
that speed. In fact, the computer-to-modem connection is much faster
and, as you saw, the actual speed over the air is much slower.
