Delayed news? Again? Is this a try to bridge the technology
gap between Europe and Japan?

It's not that easy to understand this information by just
"translating" it. You also should understand how to
interpret it (or in this case, better you leave the
interpretation at home). You write:

> Of those surveyed, only 5% stated they "knew the 3G FOMA service well".
> FOMA is NTT DoCoMo's 3G service - the first in the world launched in
> October 2001. 35% stated they've know the service reasonably well,
> 43% did not know it well at all and 17% did not know it at all.

Ok, here is a more accurate translation:

How well do you know 3G and its specialities?

* Very well: 5%
Since the questionnaire was made from 1st-7th October last
year and the service started at the 1st of October, these
answers are pure bragging or from trial members.

* I know it to a certain extend: 35%
In Japanese this means that you are an expert in this topic,
because Japanese people are modest and don't brag.
Except if they want to copy American kulture.

* I don't know it very well: 43%
Don't know it very well translates into: I heard about it
and know what it is.

* I don't know it at all: 17%
These people don't know.
