The API is sufficient to exchange data that Java can generate/access, making 
it useful for exchanging game data - there are some games floating around 
that use IR. However (of course) it is not possible to exchange external 
data, i.e. address book, downloaded machiuke images or chakumero etc over IR 
from Java. Whether this data can be transmitted externally (not using Java) 
is up to the device itself, but usually limited only to contact info, though 
I think the N504 can permit transmitting downloaded machiuke images.
