If you don't need SMS, I'd recommend just going with an unlimited-access
PHS wireless internet connection, such as DDI's Air-H" or Bmobile
(www.bmobile.ne.jp). The cards are typically PC or CF cards, but I have
seen USB versions as well.

To your system it will look just like a serial port with a modem on it.
