When DoCoMo announced this they fielded a lot of questions on usage outside
of the office. At the time they were very clear in stating that this system
could only be used while on a WLAN that is part of the corporate network.
The IP side of the phone doesn't have an external number, just an extension
number like a regular office phone, in all of their explanations.

Now, perhaps they were mistaken. I didn't look beyond their explanation but
at the time they were quite clear: At home or in a coffee shop it won't
work because they want you to use Foma while outside of the office. It
seemed the IP function was somewhat of a trojan horse to get companies to
switch all their corporate-issued handsets to Foma from PDC and competitor
networks.

I happen to be interested in this N900iL thing, and already called
icom's support staff. According to the person on the phone, as long as
N900iL can connect to their product (SR-5200VoIP2), which is compatible
with Passage Duple, you can be anywhere in this world. And to use their
product you don't need any special contract with DoCoMo (though you need
FOMA contract to get N900iL handset). You only need Fusion or OCN
contract to get the IP phone service and accordingly 050- number.
