One point on roaming. None of the Blackberrys currently in use in the US
or Europe will be able to roam to Japan as they are all GSM and not 3G.
All overseas Blackberry users who want to use the service in Japan will
need to upgrade to a dual mode GSM/3G Blackberry, the 8707 is the only
such device now.  The 8707 is not available in the US and is just
starting to be sold in the UK and Germany. Here is another article with

Some 8707 test units have been floating around recently at the  

office, but what little I have heard leads me to suspect they may  

have come from Vodafone Japan rather than DoCoMo. I am unclear on  

what if any the former's plans are for the Blackberry in Japan.

 

The date I have heard for testing the DoCoMo Blackberry is Q4 this  

year, though I don't know if that reflects their timeline or ours.
