European phones are usually several generations
(2-3 years) back in functionality compared to Japan, in
performance, specs and software.

Our overview reports give a good picture of
today's situation, features, functionalities
in Japan:

Price-wise: you need to differentiate between
"cost to make" and
"price paid by end consumer in the store at
time of purchase".

Because of handset subsidies and combined
subscription pricing the price to end consumer
in the store is difficult to compare and
practically zero in some cases, i.e. the customer
essentially pays for the phone through monthly
subscription.

"cost to make" is about 3-4 times higher for
Japanese mobile phones than global average, since
they have so many more features, better screens,
better cameras, more memory, faster processors,
FeliCa chip, GPS etc.
