Well - space, speed and cost.

Large amounts of flash are very costly and it isn't all that fast. I am 
not sure at what point hard disks become cheaper - a gig or so, 
perhaps... If you seriously want a box to compete with an ipod in the 
MP3 stakes, it needs at least a couple of gig I would have thought.
