While I am quite excited about the effect that the iPhone had on Apple
stock today, I'm quite disappointed in the lack of UMTS, ridiculous
delay in getting the phone to Asia and exclusive Cingular agreement.
Obviously they will be making other agreements in other markets, but I
was hoping for an unlocked phone. I think Apple was feeling the
pressure to announce the product while things were still
abuzz...releasing in Asia a year after America is...well, as Kyle put
it, just plain silly.

However, when this thing does finally hit Japan in a year, I think
it's obvious that it will have to be through SoftBank. au's network
and DoCoMo's philosophy are incompatible.

I'm also curious how they will handle the MMS thing.

Also, Apple's products are typically universal in that the software
itself supports all localizations...no need to buy "Japanese" OSX the
way Windows is done. That being said, I wonder if the iPhone will be
localized, or if we'll be able to select interface and input languages
the way we can on a Mac. That would be lovely.
